Tongariro Alpine Crossing/Te Whakawhiti maunga o Tongariro

The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is regarded as the “Must Do” Day Hike in Aotearoa/New Zealand, and has been voted as one of the Top 3 Day Walks in the World!

Without a doubt, the scenery is absolutely stunning and Insta Worthy!

You will encounter mountain views, geothermal activity, sparkling lakes, and the opportunity to walk on a live volcano.  The Crossing covers 20.4kms (12.76 miles) through varying mountain and alpine terrain and takes on average 6-8 hours to complete in good weather with average fitness.  You will need to be well prepared for this hike i.e.  appropriate clothing, footwear, essential equipment (see list below) and are in a fit medical state. The weather conditions can change suddenly. Regularly check the current weather forecast. In the middle of summer you can find yourself in sub-zero temperatures very quickly.  Kia mataara/Be vigilant.

My Waka Your Waka is an approved Department of Conservation Concessionaire for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.
